Professor Wins Statewide Recognition

Scott Ochs teaching

The Criminal Justice Educators Association of New York State (CJEANYS) has bestowed its highest honor on Tompkins Cortland Community College Professor Scott Ochs. The CJEANYS named Ochs the recipient of the annual Richard B. Lewis Award at the organization’s 2016 conference in Lake Placid. The Richard B. Lewis Award recognizes Ochs for his devotion to criminal justice education as well as his tenure of service both to the College and to the CJEANYS. The annual award winner is peer selected by members of CJEANYS.

Ochs has been a member of the faculty at Tompkins Cortland Community College since 1992 and has served as chair of the criminal justice program since 2001. He won the SUNY Chancellor’s /Trustees’ Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2005 and has been active both on campus and with CJEANYS. He has also volunteered extensively in the community, notably serving on the Homer School District Board of Education.

Founded in 1972, the CJEANYS has members from the colleges and universities in the state that offer criminal justice related programs. The organization’s mission is to promote excellence in criminal justice higher education, with the Richard B. Lewis award being its highest annual honor.
