Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start the transfer process?

Come to a transfer information session. They're listed on our events calendar. Then make an appointment to speak with a transfer counselor.

What transfer school is best for me?

What depends on many factors. Identifying what's most important to you is one of the many things a counselor will help you figure out. Then searching websites and reference books in the CCIC will help you decide.

Will I be automatically accepted by the next school?

No. Students must meet minimum requirements for transfer admission, e.g. GPA, courses taken, etc., complete an application and other specific admission requirements detailed by each institution.

Does TC3 have agreements with other colleges and universities to help me transfer?

TC3 does have a few articulation agreements with other colleges. These agreements outline specific academic requirements that must be met in order to transfer with junior-level status. You must also apply and meet transfer admissions requirements. The final decision regarding admission rests solely with the transfer institution. Current articulation agreements are on file in the CCIC.

When do I have to select a major?

It is best to know which major you want when applying to your transfer school. In some cases this may vary, but deciding on a major soon will help you plan your academic coursework at TC3. If you are unclear, speak with a career counselor to work on clarifying your goals.

What academic program should I be in at TC3 to prepare me to transfer?

It depends on what you'd like to study at the next school and what school you'd like to transfer to. In general, A.S. and A.A. programs are designed for transfer purposes. Speak with your advisor and a transfer counselor.

Where do I get applications?

We have SUNY applications in the CCIC and some other New York state college applications. If we don't have the application you need, you can contact that school or find what you need on their website.

What else will I have to send in order to apply? How do I get that?

You will have to have your official TC3 transcript sent to the admissions office of the schools to which you are applying. You will also have to have transcripts sent from any other colleges you have attended. Contact those schools directly.

How many of my TC3 credits will my new school take?

The transfer Institution always makes the final decisions on this. But if you have worked closely with your advisor and a transfer counselor, most courses for which you got a C or better will transfer.
