John holds a B.A. in Biology from SUNY Plattsburgh, and an M.S. in Microbiology from the University of Rhode Island. His employment experience includes Microbiology positions with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Upstate Medical Center. He also served as Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor at Oswego Hospital.

More recently, John was a Supervisor of Microbiology and Anatomic Pathology at the Syracuse VA Medical Center until his retirement in 2018. He has also been a long time Adjunct Microbiology Instructor at Onondaga Community College. John is a former (two term) NYS Director for the Northeast Association of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (NACMID).
