Dr. Smith is the Program Chair of both the Human Services and Chemical Dependency Counseling Programs at Tompkins Cortland Community College.  He is a NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and a NYS Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor. Dr. Smith practices part time in Syracuse, NY. Additionally, Dr. Smith teaches as an adjunct instructor in the graduate social work program at Syracuse University.

Dr. Smith has served as a Research Advisor in the MSW Program at Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, MA. Also, he has worked as a trainer and consultant for the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. Dr. Smith participates actively in scholarly activities including presentation and publication.

Dr. Smith is an experienced online educator, and has proficiency with distance learning, curriculum development, quality improvement, and assessment.
