With more than 10 years experience offering Intensive English Programs to international students and professionals on our safe, beautiful, rural campus, Tompkins Cortland is an innovator in offering effective and engaging English instruction by experienced and professional teachers of English.

IEP at Tompkins Cortland is ideal for:
- Anyone who needs to improve their academic English and learn more about the United States and its people in order to be successful in an academic setting
- Current or incoming international students from all over the world who plan to study in the U.S. – or who are hoping to do so
- Recent college graduates and current graduate students who need to refresh their English during the summer break period
- Adult professionals coming the U.S. who need to improve their academic English before starting an academic program or employment in an academic setting in North America
Specialized courses may be available in areas like Business English, English for Hospitality, and English for the Health Care professions, based on interest. Contact us at IEP@tompkinscortland.edu for more information or for a customized group program.
The Tompkins Cortland Advantage
The 5-week Intensive English Program at Tompkins Cortland is affordable at just $3,500, and offers experienced, professional instruction in a family atmosphere. In addition to the classroom experience, we also offer cultural activities and outings to give you a true American English language experience.
Cultural Programming Makes it Real
Tompkins Cortland proudly offers cultural programming on Fridays, as well as off-campus excursions throughout the program. You will become familiar with the people and the culture of the United States and our local region in a fun and engaging environment.
We believe that a relaxed and hands-on, individual approach makes learning easier. Every effort is made so that improving English is a challenging, fun, and enriching experience.
Scenic Location in a Center of Education
Our campus is located in a peaceful Upstate New York village about four hours from New York City. Tourists and international students come to the beautiful Finger Lakes Region from around the world to experience the natural beauty, the food, and the wine and local products for which our region is known.
We are close to Cornell University, Ithaca College, SUNY Cortland, and numerous other colleges and universities – the Finger Lakes truly is a hub of higher education in the United States.

How Can I Apply?
Submit the following documents to firstname.lastname@example.org
by January 15, 2018 for priority processing.
1. Fill out the IEP application.
2. TOEFL/IELTS scores (minimum scores: TOEFL = 42; IELTS = 4.5 )
3. A photocopy of your passport’s information page
4. Proof of funding – bank statements from your bank or your
sponsor’s bank showing you have funding for the program fee
plus at least $4,000 to cover meals and other expenses while here.
(include an Affidavit of Support signed by your sponsor, if necessary; this can be found at the end of the application).
Important: We will confirm your admission and that the program will take place by March 16, 2018. Do not purchase plane tickets until you have received an admission letter and the confirmation. After confirmation, other documents will be requested.
Student Visa Information
Once your admission and the program are confirmed, if a student visa is needed for you to enter the U.S. to participate in this program, we will create an I-20 and provide instructions for obtaining the F-1 visa at a U.S. Consulate.
