Area High School Students Graduate with College Degrees

The Early Degree program run by Tompkins Cortland Community College’s CollegeNow passed a milestone this year: over the past ten years, more than 200 students have earned their college degree at the same time as their high school. Tompkins Cortland’s Class of 2020 featured 52 concurrent enrollment students who are also members of their high school’s Class of 2020.

CollegeNow has been around for more than thirty years, but CollegeNow first began offering the Early Degree program in 2010, giving ambitious high school students the chance to earn an associate degree while completing their high school requirements. After seeing two graduates the first year, the Early Degree program has steadily grown, setting a new record for class size in 2020.

CollegeNow currently works with more than 75 school districts, offering opportunities for students in those districts to earn college credits for free. In addition to the students who complete their associate degrees, hundreds more earn credits they can take with them wherever they attend college. Historically over the past several years, more than two-thirds of all Tompkins and Cortland Counties high school seniors graduate with Tompkins Cortland credits through the CollegeNow program.
