College Hosts Burn Foundation Overnight Celebration

In connection with National Burn Awareness Week (in February each year) Tompkins Cortland Community College is hosting the Burn Foundation of CNY Survivor Overnight Celebration on Saturday, February 15. Burn survivors, ranging in ages from 5 to 22, coming from Watertown to Binghamton and Rochester to Utica, will be gathering at the College to reunite with their fellow survivors and create new memories with students at the College.

The Burn Foundation of CNY brings these children together several times a year so these brave young people can truly get away from the rigors of life. The overnight is a way to heal on the inside, as well as enjoy the comaraderie of people who have similar experiences.

Tompkins Cortland Professor Chris Xaver organizes the event, now in its 7th year. Participants will arrive on campus Saturday evening, and spend the night enjoying time with their friends eating, swimming, and playing, including "Jeopardy!" in the TV studio and kickball at midnight in the field house. The weekend will conclude with breakfast at the Neptune Fire Department in Dryden, courtesy of the Dryden Hotel.
