College Names New Director of Community Outreach and Engagement

Deb Mohlenhoff

Tompkins Cortland Community College has created a new position, housed in the President’s Office, to focus on developing and maintaining relationships between the College and the community. Deborah Mohlenhoff, previously the Director of Student Activities and the Student Center, has been appointed as the College’s new Director of Community Outreach and Engagement.

Mohlenhoff has more than 20 years of experience in higher education, including her time at Ithaca College before coming to Tompkins Cortland in 2010. She has a well-established record of public service in the community, having served on numerous local non-profit boards and currently serving as an Alderperson for the Fifth Ward in the City of Ithaca. Mohlenhoff also directs Leadership Tompkins, a community leadership development program co-sponsored by the College and the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce.

In her new position, Mohlenhoff will provide support to President Orinthia Montague as she looks to strengthen existing partnerships and develop more connections to local businesses and non-profits. “We are the community’s college, and community collaborations are essential for our continued success. Deb will be the main point of contact for those in the community looking to partner with the College and the President’s Office,” said Montague. “This position is crucial as the College will soon be entering a strategic planning phase and analyzing our priorities. I look forward to working with Deb as she assists me with several initiatives.”

As her new title suggests, Mohlenhoff will directly engage with the communities the College serves. She will have office hours at each College location, splitting time between the main campus in Dryden and the College’s Extension Centers in downtown Ithaca and Cortland. Anyone seeking to collaborate with the College is encouraged to reach out to Mohlenhoff at community@tompkinscortland.edu or by phone at 607.844.8222, Ext. 7608.
