One team and twelve individual Tompkins Cortland Community College student-athletes have been honored for their academic excellence by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Panthers volleyball team was recognized as one of the 2019-20 Academic Teams of the Year, and NJCAA All-Academic honors were given to Jessica Fisk (Waterloo/Waterloo H.S.), Adebodun Ademoyo (Binghamton/Seton Catholic H.S.), Brianna Allen (Marion/Marion H.S.), Kassidy Egan (Spencer/Spencer-Van Etten H.S.), Natasha Feocco (Newfield/Dryden H.S.), Erin Harkenrider (Dryden/Dryden H.S.), Kadija Hill-Custis (Syracuse/Fowler H.S.), Kaw Ler Hser (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.), Alexander Russell-Cook (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.), Joey Shufelt (Dryden/Dryden, H.S.), Carmelina Vigliotti Martinez (Syracuse/Henninger H.S.), and Breanna Wendel (Dryden/Dryden H.S.). Fisk is a repeat All-Academic selection; it was the first time for the rest.

"NJCAA student-athletes proved that no obstacle is too difficult to overcome," said NJCAA President and CEO Christopher Parker. "These difficulties pushed our student-athletes to the limit this year, but the opportunity to overcome these challenges presented itself and our student-athletes flourished academically. The association commends all individuals for their continued success on the playing surfaces and in the classrooms."

The Panthers volleyball team was honored as one of the Academic Teams of the Year for posting a team GPA of 3.32. The team consisted of 15 players, with more than half of the team finishing above 3.0. Wendell led the team with a perfect 4.0. Feocco (3.97), Harkenrider (3.90), Egan (3.81), and Hill-Custis (3.60) were among the standouts on the volleyball team.

Among individual award winners, Fisk (women’s soccer) and Wendell were named to the All-Academic First-Team with perfect 4.0 GPAs. Egan, Feocco, Harkenrider, Ademoyo (men’s soccer), and Vigliotti Martinez (softball) each was named to the second-team, which requires a GPA of 3.80-3.99. Hill-Custis, Allen (women’s soccer), Lew Hser (men’s soccer), Russell-Cook (men’s soccer), and Shufelt (lacrosse) were named to the third team, which requires a GPA of 3.60-3.79.
