College Wins $15K to Support Tioga County Students
For more than 35 years, the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to helping improve the community through education by providing valuable resources to Tompkins Cortland community College students. Once again renewing that support, the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation has awarded a $15,000 grant to the College to provide financial assistance to Tioga County residents during the 2022-23 academic year. The Owego-based Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation has been providing grants to the College annually since 1986, providing crucial support to students from Tioga County.
“The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation is one of our most loyal supporters, and we continue to be grateful of their incredible support,” said Julie Gerg, the executive director of the Tompkins Cortland Community College Foundation. “The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation has touched the lives of hundreds of people through the years, not only helping individuals but also enhancing the quality of life in our community. The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation continues to be a shining light in leading the way, and we’re tremendously appreciative of our partnership.”
The money from the grant goes directly to students in the form of grants that typically range from $250 to $500 per year. To be eligible, a student must be a Tioga County resident, must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 while enrolled in a degree program, and must demonstrate financial need.
Mildred Faulkner Truman was a lifelong resident of Owego. Upon her passing in 1983, her estate was used to create the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation, which continued her work of addressing the community’s challenges. By supporting worthwhile projects that benefit Owego and Tioga County, the Foundation is making a significant positive impact on the community its benefactress loved so dearly.
