Professor Raising Awareness and Funds for Turkey Recovery Efforts

Hands in heart shape with flag of Turkey

Tompkins Cortland Community College Professor Amber Gilewski is planning a return trip to Turkey in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that claimed more than 30,000 lives in Turkey and Syria.

Gilewski spent part of the fall semester in Turkey enrolled in a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) program moderated by Cambridge English in Istanbul. As part of the intensive teacher development program, she had to teach English to Turkish students. Her trip to Turkey later this month is to visit some of her students and other friends she made, many of who have been immersed in recovery efforts since the earthquake struck earlier this week.

In addition to supporting humanitarian aid through global relief agencies, Gilewski is accepting donations of money that she will take to assist the recovery efforts on the ground in Turkey.
