James Sharpsteen Named Employee of the Month

September 16, 2026

James Sharpsteen, senior groundskeeper, has been named the Tompkins Cortland Community College Employee of the Month for September 2026.

Sharpsteen is known for his unwavering dedication and positive approach, even when working in conditions most would find unpleasant. Throughout the winter months, he works tirelessly to keep walkways and roads on campus safe and accessible, clearing snow and ice at all hours. During the warmer months, he works diligently on the lawns, including being the main caretaker for the College’s baseball field during the spring and summer seasons. His attention to detail and the care he puts into his work make a meaningful difference in the daily experience of everyone who learns, works, lives, and plays on our campus.

The Employee of the Month program recognizes individuals who exemplify the values and mission of the College with their outstanding service and attitude. Nominations for the award are accepted from students, staff, or members of the community.

As the Employee of the Month, Sharpsteen receives a gift certificate to a local business, a TC3 Employee of the Month tumbler, and exclusive use of the Employee of the Month parking spot.

Nominations can be made at any time for future Employees of the Month through TC3 Employee of the Month | Online Nomination Form.
