Free Community College Expands at TC3
The SUNY Reconnect program, which provides free community college for New Yorkers 25 to 55 years old enrolled in academic programs in high-demand fields, is being expanded to cover more students. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that adults who previously earned a college degree in another area of study will now also be eligible for a free associates degree through the program. The original version of the program launched last year was limited to adults without a prior degree, but the expansion removes that limitation.
SUNY Reconnect provides free associate degrees in high-demand fields for New Yorkers 25 to 55 years old, including tuition, fees, books, and supplies. TC3 had more than 200 adults enrolled in the first semester of the program, and that number has grown to more than 400 this year. Earlier this fall the College opened its Adult Learner and Reconnect Center, centralized point of access designed to better serve adult learners, including SUNY Reconnect participants. The office provides proactive coaching, navigation, and case-managed support for adult learners across their educational journey, serving as a supportive space for students balancing work, life, family, and college.
Currently TC3 has 13 academic degree programs covered by SUNY Reconnect, with more being developed. Three of the existing 13 programs are available completely online.
