TC3 Signs Transfer Agreement with Binghamton University
Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) and Binghamton University have a new articulation agreement that will provide TC3 graduates to continue their education at one of the premier university centers in the SUNY System. The agreement was signed by TC3 President Amy Kremenek and Binghamton University Associate Dean Matthew McConn at a ceremony on the Dryden campus.
“The need for social workers in our region is acute, which makes agreements like this one so vital. Our partnership with Binghamton University provides our graduates the ability to transfer with the SUNY system to earn a bachelor’s degree in a high-demand field that greatly enhances their career opportunities,” said TC3 President Kremenek. “This agreement will ultimately help lead our graduates into rewarding professions that will make lasting, widespread positive impacts in our community."
The agreement applies to students in TC3’s Human Services program who are interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work within Binghamton University’s renowned College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA). TC3 students who graduate with a minimum GPA of 3.0 are eligible, and those accepted would be able to transfer into Binghamton with junior status and complete their BSW in two years of full-time study. The addition of a BSW would create significantly more opportunities for TC3 grads, both in terms of a wider range of careers available and advanced standing for Binghamton’s master’s degree in social work (MSW) program.
“Having come to Binghamton University in 1999 to help build the MSW program, I am especially proud to see our social work programs continue to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our students and our region,” said Binghamton University’s College of Community and Public Affairs Dean Laura Bronstein, noting that the growth included creating the Baccalaureate of Social Work (BSW) program in 2019. “The addition of the BSW represents an important expansion of our commitment to preparing social workers who are ready to serve individuals, families, and communities. This partnership with Tompkins Cortland Community College is an exciting next step, creating a clear pathway for TC3 students to continue their education at Binghamton and become part of the CCPA community. We are proud to work together to expand access to social work education and strengthen the pipeline of talented professionals who will serve our region.”
