Hubbard and Pitman Named Distinguished Alums

May 26, 2026

The Distinguished Alumni Award of Tompkins Cortland Community College was presented to two alums at the College’s commencement ceremony on May 19, 2026.

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes alums who have excelled in their professional life and in service to the community. After nominations from the community, a committee selects worthy recipients to honor.

Marth Hubbard graduated in 1975, the first class to graduate from the Dryden campus. She was the coordinator of the Center for Lifelong Learning at SUNY Cortland for ten years before starting a 24-year career working at TC3. She held progressively responsible roles, all with a focus on adult students and workforce development. Perhaps her most enduring contribution to the community was her work in founding the Leadership Cortland program. A partnership between TC3 and the Cortland Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Cortland cultivated community leaders, with the program touching hundreds of people during the 22 years she served as director.

Robert Pitman is a member of the class of 1989. His exemplary career in law enforcement has covered more than three decades. He started with the Homer Police Department in 1993 before joining the Cortland Polie Department in 1994. He went on to serve nearly 15 years with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, working on road patrol and as an investigator. Following a brief retirement, he worked for the Marcellus Police Department before returning to Homer as the Chief of Police in 2016. Over the past ten years he has added to an already illustrious career, serving the community he loves.
