Living On Campus

NOTE: PROGRAM IS NOT OFFERED IN 2019/20

Housing

Intensive English Program participants will be housed together in one of the seven residence halls on campus. Residence Hall are a 10-minute walk from the main building and the athletic center. Living together in apartments is one of the aspects of the program that students appreciate the most. Make lifelong friendships and practice your English with roommates from around the world!

Tompkins Cortland residence halls are apartment-style, containing:

  • a shared kitchen
  • shared bathroom
  • shared living area
  • four private bedrooms with locking doors

PLEASE NOTE: Everyone in the program will live with other program participants.

Meals

Approximately one meal per day is included in the program fee. $250 or $50 per week in “dining dollars” will be pre-loaded onto your Tompkins Cortland ID card that can be used to purchase breakfast, lunch or dinner in the cafeteria Monday through Friday. You will primarily use your dining dollars to eat breakfast or lunch when classes and workshops are in session, but you can use it any time the cafeteria is open. This is $10 per day on average for five weeks. The dining dollars are non-transferrable and can only be used at on-campus dining locations. Participants will need to cover approximately ten of their own meals Monday-Friday and all weekend meals, since the cafeteria is expected to be closed on weekends. Most participants choose to share grocery shopping and cooking with their roommates for maximum cost effectiveness.

Transportation

The College is located on a peaceful, rural campus in a natural setting in the small town of Dryden, New York. Transportation via public bus is available during the week and on a limited basis on weekends. Because our students are busy in classes during the day, Tompkins Cortland also provides evening buses twice weekly in the evening for campus residents to shop for groceries and necessities. All required program-related transportation – places you go with your classes or that is required as a cultural experience is covered by the program fee. However, any trips that Tompkins Cortland organizes “for fun” may have a minimal cost of between $10-$30. For these optional trips, the cost of transportation will be included in the cost of the ticket you will purchase on campus.
