College Partners on Apprenticeship Program

Biz Provides Workforce Development Training for Participants

Tompkins Cortland Community College is collaborating with several local and state organizations on a new accelerated apprenticeship program. The program works with local businesses to identify candidates, provide training while the apprentice is paid, and finally produce qualified workers. Candidates interested in applying have until May 3 to apply. The program provides all the training needed to start a career in advanced manufacturing - no experience is necessary. This program features apprentices hired by Ames Linen Service of Cortland, Square Deal Machining, Inc. of Marathon, Timberwolf Firewood Processing Equipment of Marathon, Hardinge, Inc. of Elmira, and Samscreen of Conklin. Once applicants are accepted into the program, they will receive six weeks of paid training before moving onto four years of mentoring in a state-registered apprenticeship. The six weeks of training is delivered by Biz, the College’s home for continuing education and non-credit professional development programs, and will be conducted at the College’s Cortland Extension Center.
