The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation is once again providing valuable resources for Tioga County residents studying at Tompkins Cortland Community College. Starting in 1986, the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation has awarded an annual grant to the College to provide financial assistance to Tioga County residents. The Owego-based Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation is providing $15,000 for students during the 2023-24 academic year, bringing its total commitment through the years to well over half a million dollars.

“Our students have been able to receive an education, and our community is a better place, thanks to the wonderful generosity of the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation. We are grateful for their continued loyalty to the mission of the College,” said Julie Gerg, the executive director of the Tompkins Cortland Community College Foundation. “The ripple effects of the support the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation provides can be felt throughout our community. We are tremendously appreciative to have a relationship that has had such a positive impact for such a long time.”

The money from the grant goes directly to students in the form of grants that typically range from $250 to $500 per year. To be eligible, a student must be a Tioga County resident, must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 while enrolled in a degree program, and must demonstrate financial need.

Mildred Faulkner Truman was a lifelong resident of Owego. Upon her passing in 1983, her estate was used to create the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation, which continued her work of addressing the community’s challenges. By supporting worthwhile projects that benefit Owego and Tioga County, the Foundation is making a significant positive impact on the community its benefactress loved so dearly.
