Taking an Online Course

Students should go to my.tc3.edu and select the Create An Account link. With your myTC3 username and password follow these steps:

  1. Select the "Sign in" link
  1. Enter your myTC3 username and password.
  1. The first time you log in successfully to myTC3 you will be directed to enroll in myTC3 PASSWORD. You can recover or change your myTC3 password later or receive password assistance in accordance with the Student Identity Verification Policy.
  1. Select "Web Courses" link.
  1. Remember to sign out when finished, especially if you are on a public or shared computer.

Internet Connectivity

A broadband Internet connection such as DSL or Cable is recommended for best results with online courses. Access to a computer with a dial-up connection is an absolute minimum.

Your web browser needs to be set to allow for cookies.

Pop-up Blocker

The Pop-up Blocker in your web browser either needs to be off or set it to allow pop-up windows from the tc3.sln.suny.edu domain.

Technical Requirements

Successful navigation through an online course requires that your computer meet the specifications below. If your computer does not meet the requirements, technical support may be limited and you may run into problems viewing and using components of your courses.

Hardware Requirements

Blackboard is a web-based application should work reliably on almost any computer that is capable of accessing the Internet. Older computers may run slower or may not be able to handle some of the media in certain courses, but should suffice if a newer computer is not available.

The student computer recommendation lists what will meet or exceed the hardware requirements.

  • Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7
  • Mac OS X: 10.3 or higher

Hardware

  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 1GB free hard disk space
  • High-speed Internet connection

Software

  • Word processor, Microsoft PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer, Adobe Reader
  • Some courses may require additional software
